Genius Crowds was a crowdsourcing platform founded in 2010 on the principles of collaboration and sharing. It served as a platform for everyday people – students, women, men, moms, dads, DIY'ers, cooks, and tinkerers - who have a product idea that they don't know how to bring to market. Genius Crowds helped develop them into commercial ideas with big market potential and Genius Crowd creators shared in the profits. Genius Crowds launched its first product in 2012. Submitting ideas to the site was free of charge. The community critiqued them and chose "crowd favorites," while a panel of retailers, manufacturers and Genius Crowd staffers assessed the ideas for marketability and selected those that hold promise. C.J. Kettler describes in an interview more details about Genius Crowds and the intention of the platform.
